About
Hello, I'm Marianne, I'm a ceramicist, artist & teacher.

The magic of being able to create something entirely from scratch has never ceased to inspire me. I love making anything with my hands and the story told by others through their handmade artwork.

I live and work in the hills of the English Lake District, which provides peace, calm and an abundance of inspiration for my work in ceramics & jewellery. I'm a country lass through & through, growing up in the Scottish Borders and settling here in the Lakes.

Whilst especially drawn to the delicacies of botanical forms, I am constantly captivated by the seasonal changes of colours and texture in my surrounding landscape. In my opinion there are few places as varied and as beautiful. I studied BA (Hons) in Contemporary Crafts, specialising in ceramics and now work with mainly porcelain & silver. The fineness and purity of porcelain is a constant draw. Having a fresh piece of clay in front of me I see endless possibilities; journeys of experimentation, progression, beauty and wonder, always ending in some learnt experience, even if it's not always predictable!
I've been teaching pottery for 8 years and sharing this wonderful craft is such fun. I offer a range of different courses, classes and experience days suitable for many different abilities and aims; from absolute beginners looking to begin their making journey, people looking for a fun day to out try something new or perhaps carving out some regular time for yourself to learn a new skill.
If you find your passion, I offer progression courses and classes to take your skills to the next level. Class groups are small and friendly, held in my rural home studio in the North Lake District. There is a wonderful community to our classes, the kettle is always on and there are always biscuits!
